For decades, mental health professionals have battled addiction and abuse problems in the society in one way or another. Back in the mid 19 th century, the pharmacological treatment consists of stationary psychiatric wards in a hospital or a shelter crazy. Expectations of substance abuse and mental health problems at that time, if not the entire cure, then the healing, which focuses on the admission and treatment with a controlled and safe environment. Many of those who suffer from mental health or addiction problems who could not afford to care for asylum had been hidden in cages, pens and barns along the way, even with animals. Often, the animals were treated better.
The 20 th century gave birth to a little effort to actually achieve success in addiction recovery. In 1939, 12-step treatment method was carried out and, subsequently, many residential treatment programs approved by the rehabilitation process a success bit 'better. This program was developed for alcoholics and later in other plants for processing of narcotics.
Program long-term Christian was first developed in 1958 by followers of the Faith Assembly of God, known as Teen Challenge. It is 12-18 months in the hospital to take the program to help drug addicts and alcohol, alcoholics, gang members, prostitutes and other forms of life survive in the management of harmful compulsions and spiritual awakening.
The Narconon program was developed in 1966 by William Benitez in Arizona jail, heroin addict, who had several failed attempts to overcome addiction. The Narconon program is now worldwide in more than 150 drug education and rehabilitation centers in 50 countries.
In the early 1980's doctors and psychiatrist in what appears to be an attempt to monopolize the field of addictions philosophy employed dual diagnosis. Those in the psychiatric community wrongly claimed that people with addictions or cravings toxic substances have been "self-medication." This has led to billions of dollars in profits for the field of psychiatry and hospital detoxification programs throughout the world, not to mention the pharmaceutical industry does things much worse.
